Our goals and objectives are tailored towards addressing issues that align with the Sustainable Development Goals;

  1. No Poverty,
  2. Zero Hunger,
  3. Good Health and Wellbeing, and
  4. Climate Action.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

We are addressing Food Security and Nutrition; post-harvest loss in the tomato value chain and growing concern over malnutrition across Sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Post-harvest loss in the tomato value chain in Nigeria poses a serious threat to achieving Food Security with over 50% of the 1.8 million metric tons produced annually lost due to inadequate value chain management and storage facilities.
  • Post-harvest loss poses a disincentive to Smallholder farmers who make up 20% of the framing population, hindering their abilities to achieve anticipated profitability and negatively impacting their overall livelihood.
  • Malnutrition and Reduced Hunger; the growing concern for malnutrition particularly in children is exacerbated by the high prevalence of malnourishment contributing to 45% of child deaths and stunted growth according to UNICEF.

SOLUTION

The development of low-cost processing and packaging methodologies to produce shelf-stable and convenient products are the prime requirements of the present competitive market and this is expected to reduce tomato wastage as reported by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

    • Tomato Powder Production

    Sophie Foods plans to reduce food wastage by sourcing surplus tomatoes from local farmers and processing them into high quality tomato powder ensuring safety and purity.

    • Dietary Cereal Formula

    We have created a cereal formula containing essential micronutrients for the vulnerable population; offering a convenient and affordable solution.

    • Community Engagement

    Partnering with local farmers to promote sustainable agricultural practice, providing training, and investing in rural communities to create economic opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s Food Security.

OUR PRODUCTS

    • Sophie Tomato Powder– a product borne out of the zeal to contribute in mitigating post-harvest loss in the tomato value chain. It is properly dehydrated without any chemical additives using electric-powered machine though we hope to scale up to using solar-powered drying system and align with climate action and energy for clean cooking in the Sustainable Development Goals.
